Proyecto Azecto and Time Warner Cable held a technology celebration in Alamo today. Local elected officials helped the community service organization and Time Warner celebrate the installation of technology at the Dolores Huerta Community Center located on South Tower Road in Alamo.
Attending the event were State Representative Armando (Mando) Martinez, Alamo Mayor Rudy Villarreal and community leaders from Hidalgo County.
On the heels of a $65 million upgrade of its cable infrastructure in every community it serves in the Valley - stretching from South Padre Island to Roma - Time Warner Cable is now providing Digital Phone, Road Runner High Speed Online and video services to every community it serves in the Rio Grande Valley.
"Time Warner Cable is honored to be able to provide services to this fabulous center," said Michael Carrosquilla, Vice President and General Manager of Time Warner Cable in the Rio Grande Valley. "Time Warner Cable has made a substantial private-capital investment in the Valley, with no subsidies and no guaranteed rate of return. We believe the Valley is a great investment and we are pleased to partner with such a strong community-based organization."
Time Warner's contribution to the Dolores Huerta Community Center is part of its commitment to provide an annual contribution worth over $200,000 in services to power computer labs at public libraries, community centers and Boys & Girls Clubs with Road Runner High Speed Online.
"At Time Warner Cable, we think it's important to bridge the digital divide and ensure that those who don't have these resources at their homes can go to their local library or community center to access the Internet," Carrosquilla said.
Road Runner High Speed Online is a high-speed online service delivered to the computer over a cable line. The delivery of data can be at speeds up to 100 times greater than that of a traditional telephone line and modem (28.8 or 56.6k). The cable modem provides an always-on connection to computers for lightening-fast multimedia communications. |
